In West Virginia if your car is older than 25 years you can get antique plates and you are no loger required to get an inspection, however with antique plates you can only drive Weekends, Holidays and a few other specific occasions (car shows, mechanic, etc..)

you do not have to have an inspection sticker for any car that is registered and had antigque tags, i look it up on the dmv sight and that is the fact, i have been running my 66 bug for two years like this and i have a brother and many friends includeing one who work as a state inspector for 20 years that all confirm you do not need a sticker once you register it as an antique.

Any vehicle, regardless of age, weight class, etc. will have to go through an inspection and receive an inspection sticker (if the state does so ... Michigan does not have vehicle inspections, and the registration sticker on the plates substitutes for an inspection sticker).What will vary is what is done in the inspection. Classic or Collectors cars do not need to go through an emissions inspections in all states, as far as I know. My diesel truck, which was not factory-equipped with a catalytic converter or soot trap, also does not get an emissions test. What they will verify is that the vehicle is safe, all lights are operational, signals work, etc. etc. (visual inspection).

it is true you can only drive it on weekends, holidays, to the mechanic, parades etc, but you are also allowed to drive it if you have recently worked on it also, like if i put breaks on my bug, i can take it for a test spin to teh gas station or the local fast food joint to make sure my work is satisfactory, in other words, i do not know of, nor have i been harrassed by any law inforcement at all but i'm also not driving it to work everyday of the week either. and if you look at my car, its one that ask for trouble and yet i've never been pulled over. the reason for the special driving times is that antique insurance will only cover you for those types of drives adn not everyday, so the law is just enforcing your insurance policy. you also can not be out after dark because of this, but i run run run, LOL

nitrogreen what is your source on this, the dmv told me this but the local police told me different they said i need a inspection sticker
