I bought a bike with no title. Have a bill of sale though. Can I apply for a lost title for it?

I bought a motorcycle but the guy didnt have a title. He wrote me out a bill of reciept thought. I wanted to know if I could apply for a title in my name since it bought it.

I'm actually in the same boat, i bought a bike from a co-worker but he didn't have the title and it was never in his name. I discovered that the original owner wrecked the bike and sold it while he was still making payments on the bike, now some bank own's the title.But to answer your question, a bill of sale even notarized doesn't mean anything to the tag office, they want to see a lost title form with the original owners name, signature, address, stating he sold you the  bike, not some third party individual w/ no title. but there must be something else you can do but i don't know. ; ( Is there any easy way around all this mess?
