Parking Tickets VS. Traffic Tickets in IL

Parking tickets are different than traffic tickets. Parking tickets are normally issued by the city government or institutions such as colleges. You'll want to do an online search to see if your city has a presence on the Web--some cities allow you to pay fines online.

Traffic offenses are a police/court system matter, not a matter for the Driver Services
Department of the Secretary of State. When you are
issued a traffic citation by a police officer, the ticket is handled by the
court system; you pay any fines directly to the court.

The confusion lies in the fact that while the SOS doesn't give out the tickets, it does maintain a record of your tickets in order to determine if your driving record meets the standards to remain valid. If it doesn't, the State can take action and suspend or revoke your license.

It happens that in IL you can pay your traffic tickets online in SOME counties--look at the listings of the "circuit clerks" on the IL E-Pay page. You can read more about that here: http://www.dmv.org/il-illinois/paying-tickets.php.

If you can't find your traffic ticket, you need to contact the county clerk in the county where the ticket was issued: http://www.idph.state.il.us/vitalrecords/countylisting.htm.

If you are trying to find out about OLD traffic tickets, you will need to order a copy of your driving record. That will show the current status of your driver's license and will show any past traffic violations: http://www.dmv.org/il-illinois/driving-records.php.
