First ticket, failure to maintain a lane, is there any way I contest this ticket; at least ask for a later court.

Additional Details

This is my first ticket. It was about two in the morning, and raining. I am twenty one years old and there was no alcohol involved. It is a ticket for "failure to maintain lane." I was passing through the intersection when car lost control, think there was something in the road, but cant prove it and the the only other option besides the other lane, was the concrete wall on my right. There was another vehicle involved but no persons were harmed and there was minimal damage to the car. Do they give a copy of the ticket the the person other car? Is there any way I can contest this in court? And also is there any way to move the court appearance to a later date?
