Can i get a id without a social security number?

since i was 4 , my mother died, and my father and i came to america for my mothers funeral. Some misunderstandings happened and my father went to jail then afterward got deported back to my county guyana. I stayed in the u.s. My documents were under my fathers name, and they took it away or it got lost. I am 17 turning 18 in march and i yet have no id except for my birth certificate and school id's. I desperately need my ssn and and an id. My grandparents have been procrastinating for so long since my mother died. I want to be successful in life. I am planning to move back to ny to try work on getting my ssn and get in to college but i need an id. Is there any way i can get an id with out a social. Im going to need one to travel. Is there any way i can get an id for now until i move ang get an id stating i am from ny?

There is no way around it, your social is the fastest and easiest form of identification. You will need it for college, a job, driving, passports etc. Heres what you can do to get a ssc. You have your birth certificate, Im not sure if you can go now because you are 17 but no harm in trying. Go to the local social security office with your birth certificate and whatever ID you have including photo. Tell the clerk your predicament and she can most likely help more than anything else. If she is unable to give you a SSC then its because you are either under aged or theres a deeper governmental issue. But as long as you have your Birth Certificate then you should be safe, hold onto that, that is just as important as a SSC Good Luck Sweety
