I'm moving from MA to MN in Aug & want to buy a car for moving in and use in MN. Financial pros/cons of this idea?

As I mentioned, I want to buy a car in which to make my move from MA to MN, where I'll ultimately be driving the car to and from work. I'm not sure if this is a good idea (versus renting a budget truck - about 1200 for the move - and then worrying about a car purchase once in MN). I'm fairly certain that I want to purchase a Honda Fit or similar subcompact (I don't have too much stuff), and I'm considering new and certified used. My license is a MN driver's license (I've only been in MA for a year).
